Carnosine Biohacking using Lactigo Gel

As a Holistic Health Professional of 28 years with an Exercise Science degree, I take a ‘Primal’ approach to the way that I live life and work with my clients – if it isn’t obvious by the name and ethos of this website! Simply put, the more things that you I can put in and on your body that are the way that nature intended them to be, the better. So supplementation and pharmaceuticals are a last resort for me, BUT that all massively changed for me though in 2016 when I first started drinking KETONES. I ate my words, well, I drank them!

Now 10 years later, another product has been put in front of me, and it’s definitely got my attention again. The product is called ‘Lactigo’ by a US based company called Dare Vita, as in ‘Lactic Acid – Go!’. It’s claim to fame ingredients are CARNOSINE ✅ (NOT CARNITINE ❌) and magnesium. Carnosine is a naturally occurring amino acid compound found in high concentration in muscle and brain tissue. So it’s natural. Primal!

Whilst it is a potent anti-oxidant that scavenges free radicals in our cells, carnosine is then used to buffer hydrogen i.e. Lactic Acid. In other words, it prevents the production of Lactic Acid, so during intense exercise in particular where you feel that burn and have to stop, it slows down that process and can make a workout significantly easier. Supposedly. Because it also exists in the brain, it’s reported to also help our aging population in particular through the symptoms of a tonne of neuro-degenrative health complications related to low levels of Carnosine.

Now through using Lactigo, Dare Vita say it’s possible to significantly increase your stores of Carnosine in your body, using it’s patented ‘trans-dermal’ gel delivery system. i.e. it’s NOT a topical cream that sits on the skin and barely absorbs, It actually allows molecules to effectively go straight into your skin and hence blood stream and CNS. So well in fact, in the last 10 years, they’ve been patenting the product over 50 times in different countries so no other company can reverse engineer it for a long time to come!

Previously through ingesting carnosine as a supplement, its bioavailability was terrible and hence never has become a well-known, like ketones or like creatine that requires a long loading phase. So, I’m keen to test it out, As Carnosine is a naturally occuring element of the body, the ingredients in the product are very limited and there are supposedly zero side effects and contra-indications which is very rare for supplements and products like this.

BUT – I don’t believe it it does what it says. I don’t ‘follow the science’, which there is plenty of, I question the science. And if you’ve known me and been following me for years, especially during Convid, that will be pretty clear. So I tested this out in May-June 2025, over a couple of weeks from a sports performance perspective, as during it’s 10 year retail product life available to consumers, it’s mainly used by professional athletes in Canada and the USA, but kept a very big secret, as it really works and people haven’t wanted to share it! In this first experiment workout video, you’ll see me doing 5 workouts on different days over 2 weeks of the same Crossfit Workout called Fran. The workout always really challenges me produces a ALOT of lactic acid in the shoulders and legs – hence no better workout for me to test with a product. I havent done Fran in quite, but I do plenty of chin-ups and Barbell Thrusters, so it’s nothing new, just doing the combo and having minimal breaks, will be tough. I’ve also lowered the weight from the normal 40Kg total bar to 30kg.
