SNOWBOARD BIOHACKING
Snowboarding at altitude hits differently. Especially when you live at sea level in Australia and suddenly find yourself riding close to 4000 metres in Colorado!
Less oxygen. More fatigue. Burning legs. Heavy breathing!
And because I hadn’t snowboarded in 6 years, I knew this trip was going to be the perfect real world test for a couple of things I’ve been experimenting with lately.
This time I combined two performance tools:
• Lactigo – a Topical Carnosine Gel
(FYI – its actually Transdermal but regulatory issues currently prevent labeling the bottles this way)
• The new K1 Ketone formulation from Pruvit
Not in a lab, or in theory, but on the mountain!
If you read my first blog called ‘Carnosine Biohacking with Lactigo Gel’, you’ll already know I was initially equal parts curious and sceptical. A peptide gel designed to help muscle performance sounded interesting, but I wanted to test it in situations where muscle fatigue normally becomes very obvious to me, outside of weight training and Crossfit with my previous experiment.
Snowboarding was perfect for that. Long eccentric loading through the quads. Repeated carving. Constant stabilisation. Hours and hours on the mountain. Normally by lunchtime my legs are talking back pretty aggressively.
I’ve also been experimenting with Ketones for close to a decade. Learn more about my first experimentation here: Ketosis in 59 minutes using Keto OS by Pruvit. When I arrived at my brothers place in Colorado, I had a big package of the new formula that had arrived for me. Cheaper than sending it to Australia!
Most formulations I’ve liked, but some honestly felt and tasted average. The new K1 formula interested me because the claims were more practical than flashy:
• Longer lasting energy due to the inclusion of 3 types of the main type of ketone called BHB (Beta Hydroxybutyrate)
• Better mental clarity
• Less stomach discomfort and bloating
So I figured combining Pruvit K1 Ketones with Lactigo Carnosine Gel during long snowboard sessions at altitude would make for a pretty interesting experiment for sure.
The results had me blown away again! I rode two mountains on my trip. Monarch and Breckenridge in Colorado. At Breckenridge when I combined Ketones and Lactigo for the first time, I rode hard for roughly four hours before lunch across mixed terrain. The biggest thing I noticed wasn’t some crazy energy spike. It was consistency.
Normally the deep quad burn builds progressively through the morning, especially after time away from snowboarding years! This time the burn was noticeably reduced and my legs felt stronger for longer.
The Ketones also seemed extremely clean compared to some older formulas I’ve used in the past. Steady energy. Good focus. No bloating. One thing neither product fixed though was altitude breathing 😅 That was tough! Maybe it’s because I’m 49! Or maybe it’s because I live at the ocean!
At close to 4000 metres, Colorado definitely reminds you who’s boss.
To be clear, none of this is magic. The Primal 6 is what matters most.
Mindset, Breath, Water, Food, Movement and Sleep.
But – I’m becoming increasingly interested in tools that may help support performance, recovery, and resilience in real world environments – especially as I get older. Especially when they help you keep doing hard things for longer while enjoying the experience more.
For this trip, Lactigo and K1 both earned a solid Primal 6 tick of approval. If you want to make a purchase, click on the links below.
FYI – as of May 2026, Lactigo is only available in North America – but I have my ways to get it to you wherever you are – just contact us here at Primal 6 before you make the purchase.
